Previously we offered laparoscopic assisted gastropexy but now we can do this technique with laparoscopy ALONE with the use of advanced instruments and suture. Prophylactic gastropexy is performed to prevent gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV), which is a life threatening condition. Certain breeds considered to be at greater risk but nearly all breeds of dogs have been reported to have had this condition. To prevent this life threatening condition a gastropexy can be done at the time of desexing (spaying or neutering). This technique has been shown to be as successful compared to older techniques and less painful!
