Pharmacy (RX) Assistant

Treatments/Procedures:

  • Working with treatment lead in any treatments needing to be done.
  • Manage treatments if the treatment lead is on lunch or in a procedure.
  • Being available to help induce a procedure.
  • Being available to help during an anesthetic procedure.
  • Setting up for any procedures including anesthesia machine, any desired equipment and materials needed for the procedure. 
  • Restraining animals in a safe, efficient and compassionate manner during examinations and procedures.
  • Monitor recovery, assess pain management needs and vital signs, extubate when appropriate, transfer patients to appropriate recovery area and round any other nursing staff on patient. 
  • Prep patients for procedures.  TPR, place IVC, start IVF, give pre-meds and performing shaving that needs to be done prior to surgery.
  • Make sure that all patients having general anesthesia or sedation have an anesthesia monitoring form properly filled out and an emergency drug form.

Preparing medications:

  • Acting as a point person for prescriptions during the day, field any questions regarding pending Rx's.
  • Accurately dispensing prescription medications.  Prepare prescription labels and appropriately package medications.
  • Documenting controlled drug logs anytime a controlled drug is used.
  • Ensure that medications are added to the patient’s record and appropriately charged to the client.
  • Filling medications throughout the day as time allows, calling the clients and making the proper notations. Noting if spoke to the client or left a message and where the medication was left.
  • Communicate with the treatment lead if unable to complete all Rx’s to create a team plan to complete.
  • Communicate to Kristine (inventory manager) any special order Rx’s. Make sure to provide client info, which Dr. is prescribing, medication and strength.
  •  Making sure all RX’s are filled before you leave.

Cleaning:

  • Making sure that GP is clean (treatment area, surgery, dentistry and scrub room).
  • Working with the treatment lead and RN technician to get the entire daily and weekly cleaning done in GP.
  • If the cleaning is done in GP and the Dr. Leads need help supporting them to insure all of their cleaning gets done.
  • Properly clean, pack and autoclave all surgical materials after they are used.

Laboratory Procedures and Radiographs:

  • Accurately perform routine in-house laboratory procedures.  Appropriately prepare and handle specimens.
  • Prepare any specimens dropped off by clients for outside laboratory. 
  • Take x-rays following proper safety procedures.
  • Check fecal board throughout the day and before you leave.
  • Check for any DTM cultures.
  • Check for samples at the end of the day in the centrifuge.

Attitude/Teamwork:

  • Demonstrate initiative and teamwork in everyday duties by seeking other work to do during slack times, assisting other employees within the practice, and filling in for other employees.
  • Communicating to the treatment lead if you will be outside GP assisting other employees and making sure you are not needed in GP.
  • Organize work area and exercise time management skills to maximize personal efficiency within the practice.  Prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks in a calm, organized manner.
  • Follows hospital procedures as outlined.

 

 

Pay Range
$21$23 USD
