Providing Integrated Cardiovascular Care For Your Companion
Your primary vet is indispensable when it comes to the ongoing care of your pet. However, there may be times when specialized diagnostics and care are required in order to optimize the outcome for your pet.
At Pacific & Santa Cruz Veterinary Specialists, our board-certified cardiologist is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions that may affect the cardiovascular (heart and vessel) health of your cat or dog.
This includes such disorders as congestive heart failure, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, degenerative valve disease, systemic hypertension, arrhythmias, congenital heart disease, and cardiac tumors.
Our Board-Certified Veterinary Cardiologist
We are proud to have Dr. Hayley McDonald as our on-site veterinary cardiologist. She has had the opportunity to both study and work in the veterinary cardiology field around the world. The passion that Dr. McDonald has for cardiology extends beyond veterinary care, as she completed her PhD with a focus on novel therapeutic strategies for human patients with coronary heart disease.
Diagnosing & Treating Heart Conditions
Your pet's initial visit with our cardiologist will provide an opportunity for a complete physical examination. the cardiologist will then make recommendations for further diagnostic testing based on the findings of this exam.
They will also request information about your pet's current health and any prescription medications they are on. Depending on your pet's condition, the diagnostic testing that is needed may include:
- Echocardiography
- Electrocardiography
- Radiographic Evaluation
- Blood Pressure Measurement
